HC Deb 22 November 1974 vol 881 cc536-7W
Mr. Normanton

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he is satisfied that tyres being imported for use on public services vehicles meet the appropriate safety standards and manufacturing specifications which apply to British made tyres; and what controls and checks apply to such tyres.

Mr. Carmichael

It is an offence to use any tyre which is unsuitable for the purpose to which the vehicle is being put. The responsibility for complying with the law rests primarily with the operator, but public service vehicles are also tested by the Department's vehicle examiners.
