HC Deb 22 November 1974 vol 881 cc539-40W
Mr. Rose

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether, in the light of the Starritt Report, he is satisfied with the level of safety precautions by the Special Branch in relation to those who inform it of criminal activities, with particular reference to the case of Kenneth Lennon.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

Yes. My hon. Friend will be able to form his own opinion when the report is published shortly.

Mr. Rose

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will lay down a code of conduct in relation to legal proceedings involving information supplied by the Special Branch and those working on its behalf so as to protect and ensure the fair and open nature of the administration of justice.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

I would refer my hon. Friend to the guidance issued by the Home Office to police forces on the use of informers, which will be published shortly as an appendix to the report of the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis on the case of Kenneth Joseph Lennon.
