§ Mr. Ashleyasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) if he will give an estimate of the number of people, in the last year for which figures are available, who received capital sums as compensation for injuries or disablement, the cost to the Exchequer of exempting from tax the interest earned on the investment of these compensation awards, and the cost of treating such interest as earned income rather than unearned income;
(2) what would be the estimated cost of giving an allowance equivalent to that of 442W blind persons to people whose disablement is so severe that they would be classified as 100 per cent. disabled by a medical tribunal working for the Industrial Injuries Board;
(3) what is the estimated number of people with disabilities equivalent to 100 per cent. disability level who are now paying tax themselves, or, if a woman, whose husband is paying the tax; and how many of these are below retirement age.
§ Mr. Robert SheldonI regret that the information on which to base estimates is not available.
