Mr. Henderson

asked the Lord President of the Council if he will publish in the OFFICIAL REPORT a list of all members of the Opposition in receipt of an official salary, additional to normal parliamentary salary, detailing the amounts involved in each case; and whether any other payments or allowances are made to members of the Opposition.

Under the provisions of the Ministerial and Other Salaries Act 1972 salaries are paid to the following members of the official Opposition:

House of Commons
Leader of the Opposition 9,500
Opposition Chief Whip 7,500
Two Assistant Opposition Whips 4,000
House of Lords
Leader of the Opposition 3,500
Opposition Chief Whip 2,500

The holders of the above offices in the Commons have their parliamentary salary abated by £1,500.

No other payments or allowances are made to members of the Opposition.
