HC Deb 18 November 1974 vol 881 cc339-40W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what studies have been undertaken by his Department regarding the social and economic impact of the closure of East Moors and the cessation of steel making at Ebbw Vale and Shotton, as proposed by the British Steel Corporation; and if he plans to publish the results of any such studies.

Mr. John Morris

Three separate task forces, in all of which my Department played a leading rôle, were set up to carry out a detailed assessment of the social and economic implications of the BSC's proposals as they might affect these areas in Wales. Their work has throughout been regarded as confidential. My Department continues to be closely involved in the Government's present review of the British Steel Corporation's strategy.
