asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many applications, for how much and for what purposes, they have submitted to the Social Fund of the EEC; and to what extent applications for migrant workers cover—

  1. (1) patrial British subjects;
  2. (2) non-patrial British subjects;
  3. (3) citizens of the EEC and associated States;
  4. (4) aliens from outside the EEC;
  5. (5) citizens of Commonwealth countries.

In 1973 eight applications amounting to £32.2 million were submitted and 40 applications in 1974, for £51.7 million; a further 39 applications have so far been submitted for 1975 amounting to £48.3 million. These applications cover the following types of scheme:

  1. (1) Training carried out under the auspices of the Training Services Agency and similar authorities in Northern Ireland, and by the Development Commission and Community Industry;
  2. (2) rehabilitation, training and resettlement of disabled people, including the supply of vehicles and certain aspects of medical rehabilitation;
  3. (3) transfer of workers from and within the assisted areas of Great Britain and in Northern Ireland;
  4. (4) assistance for the integration into their social and working environment of migrant workers and their families, provided by the Community Relation Commission, the Race Relations Board, and under Section 11 of the Local Government Act 1966 and the Home Office's Urban Programme.
Applications for migrant workers and their families under Article 4 of the Fund amount to £18.2 million and relate to measures which in practice mainly benefit persons who have migrated to this country from the New Commonwealth and their families. All categories of migrant workers are covered by our other applications.
