HC Deb 06 November 1974 vol 880 c175W
Mr. John Garrett

asked the Secretary of State for Industry how many industrial development certificates have been given, and how many refused, in Norfolk for each year from 1970 to 1974, respectively, by industry; and what is the estimated loss of jobs in the county as a result of the refusals.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

The numbers of industrial development certificates approved and refused for Norfolk in the years 1970 to 1973 and in the first nine months of 1974 are as follows:

Year Approvals Refusals
1970 120 Nil
1971 66 Nil
1972 42 Nil
1973 32 Nil
1974 (January to September) 33 1

Note: The exemption limit below which IDCs are not required for development in Norfolk was raised in December 1970 from 3,000 sq. ft. to 5,000 sq. ft. and in July 1972 to 15,000 sq. ft. The limit was lowered to 10,000 sq. ft. on 1st September 1974.

I regret that for reasons of confidentiality details of the refusal cannot be disclosed.
