§ Mr. MeacherThe Department's survey carried out in August-September 1974, results of which were published on 7th Ooctober 1974, indicated that the volume of manufacturers' capital expenditure would be 5 per cent. higher in 1974 than in 1973 and would rise by a further, though smaller, amount in 1975. Expenditure by distributive and service industries was expected to fall by 5 per cent. in 1974 and to show a further, but smaller, reduction in 1975. The survey carried out a year earlier indicated, for manufacturing, a strong increase of the order of 15 per cent. in 1974, and, for distributive and service industries, a small increase in 1974. 1975 was not covered by by survey.
