HL Deb 14 May 1974 vol 351 c1006WA
LORD SHINWELL

asked Her Majesty's Government:

To state what allowances, apart from basic rates of pay, are paid to members of the Forces serving in overseas bases, including Western Europe.

THE PARLIAMENTARY UNDERSECRETARY OF STATE FOR DEFENCE FOR THE ARMY (LORD BRAYLEY)

Many service allowances are payable both at home and overseas. While not in every case limited to overseas service those having a particular bearing on it are Local Overseas Allowance, Education Allowance, Overseas Family Allowance, Separation Allowance and Disturbance Allowance. Except for Overseas Family Allowance, rates are reviewed periodically by the Ministry of Defence and generally vary with rank and personal circumstances. Expenses associated with removal, and with the storage of furniture in the United Kingdom by a family stationed overseas, are re-imbursible within defined limits.
