HC Deb 03 May 1974 vol 872 cc283-4W
Mrs. Lena Jeger

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what proposals she has to ensure the continuation of homeopathic medicine and training within the reorganised National Health Service; and if she will set up a special committee under Section 8(2) of the National Health Service Reorganisation Act so that she may be advised on homeopathic medical policy and matters affecting postgraduate education in homeopathic medicine for registered medical practitioners, as required by the Faculty of Homeopathy Act 1950.

Dr. Owen

Policy in homeopathy is in no way altered by the reorganisation of the National Health Service. Like her predecessor my right hon. Friend accepts the obligation to provide facilities for this type of medicine while there are doctors willing to practise it and while there is a demand for it. Section 8(2) of the National Health Service Reorganisation Act 1973 does not empower her to do as the second part of the Question suggests.
