asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will reintroduce investment grants to replace investment tax allowances.

Mr. Joel Barnett

As my right hon. Friend said in his Budget Statement, he wants to see more investment but does not envisage any major changes in the present system of national and regional investment incentives. Continuity in this field is agreed on all sides to be very important if the incentives are to be fully effective.
