The report will deal with all relevant aspects of the multiple accidents on 13th March north of Watford Gap. I shall make a statement as soon as possible after the report is completed. I cannot yet say when this will be.

Mr. Michael Morris

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will ensure that the inquiry into the recent Ml accidents covers weather conditions and the extent of warnings given to the motoring public.

Mr. Mulley

Yes.

Mr. Michael Morris

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will ensure that the report on the recent M1 accidents when published gives specific details of the improvements which have been made to the relevant section of the motorway since the last major disaster.

Mr. Mulley

Yes, so far as they are relevant.

Mr. Michael Morris

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give priority to the provision of the new computerised fog warning lights on the Northamptonshire section of the M1 before expending any further money on motorway lighting.

Mr. Mulley

I am looking into the programmes for installing the advisory speed restriction signs and overhead lighting on the motorway.

Mr. Michael Morris

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will ensure that the inquiry into the recent MI. accident is charged with putting forward practical recommendations designed to prevent the repetition of such incidents.

Mr. Mulley

One aspect of the report will be to identify what further steps, if any, can be taken to increase the safety of the motorway.
