HC Deb 19 March 1974 vol 870 cc72-3W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what is the Government's policy towards the growth of international producer cartels involving oil, phosphates, bauxite or iron ore; and what steps the Government propose to take to protect consumer industries in the United Kingdom against prices fixed in concert by producers.

Mr. Meacher

I have been asked to reply.

Government policy in respect of oil was announced in the Gracious Speech. Similarly, in the case of other minerals the Government would participate fully in any international discussions with producer and consumer countries. We welcome the forthcoming special session of the United Nations aimed at establishing arrangements which will be in the interests of all.
