HC Deb 19 March 1974 vol 870 c73W
Mr. Biffen

asked the Secretary of State for Trade what current restrictions affect the import and export of eggs between France and the United Kingdom; and what proposals he has to produce complete reciprocity in this trade.

Mr. Buchan

I have been asked to reply.

Eggs traded within the EEC are required to conform to the EEC egg marketing regulations. In addition, it is understood that France prohibits the importation of eggs from any country which does not forbid the use of arsenical, antimonial and oestrogenic substances for the feeding and rearing of poultry. The use of such additives in the production of eggs is not at present permitted by the EEC Directive 70/524, but possible amendments have been proposed by the United Kingdom in the light of our own practices.
