HC Deb 26 June 1974 vol 875 cc447-8W
26. Sir Anthony Royle

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what action he has taken with the North Vietnamese Government regarding their failure to acknowledge the British Head of Mission in Hanoi as Ambassador of the United Kingdom; and if he will declare the North Vietnamese Ambassador persona non grata if that Government continue to break their signed agreement with the United Kingdom formalising the exchange of ambassadors between the two countries.

Mr. Ennals

The Government of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam have not yet fixed a date for Her Majesty's Ambassador in Hanoi to present his credentials. I much regret this, but the Ambassador is in regular contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in an endeavour to remove any misunderstanding there may be.

The Democratic Republic of Vietnam has not yet nominated an ambassador in London, though it has a chargé d'affaires.
