§ 27. Mr. James Johnsonasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is his policy regarding extension of fishing limits to be discussed at Caracas during the United Nations Law of the Sea Conference; and whether he will give an assurance to the fishing industry that its interests in this matter will be safeguarded.
§ Mr. EnnalsI would refer my hon. Friend to my reply of 19th June to a Question from my hon. Friend the Member for Carlisle (Mr. Lewis). There have been close discussions with representatives of the fishing industries of England and Wales and of Scotland in preparation for the conference. Representatives of both parts of the industry have been invited as technical advisers to the British delegation. Careful attention will be paid to the implications for the industry of any proposals which emerge at the conference.
§ Rear-Admiral Morgan-Gilesasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the Government's policy concerning the Law of the Sea Conference; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. EnnalsI have nothing to add to my reply to the Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Carlisle (Mr. Lewis) on 19th June 1974.
