§ Mr. Marksasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make an interim statement about the grants payable to direct grammar schools, and the fees they may charge.
§ Mr. PrenticeI do not propose for the present to make any change in the rate of grant payable to these schools. I shall expect them to make economies comparable to those which are having to be made by maintained schools. I am only prepared to approve such fee increases as prove necessary to meet unavoidable increases in running costs which remain when these economies have been made.
