§ Mr. Kilroy-Silk
asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many rape cases there were in the United 326W Kingdom for the last year for which figures are available; and in how many of these cases the judge requested the Press to refrain from publishing the names of the parties involved.
§ Mr. Alexander W. Lyon
In 1973 in England and Wales 429 persons were tried at the Crown Court for rape; in addition 17 juveniles were dealt with summarily. I regret that there is no readily available information about the number of cases in which the court requested the Press to refrain from publishing the names of the parties involved.
