HC Deb 24 June 1974 vol 875 c333W
Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what conditions were placed on the London borough of Newham in respect of the use of Eastlea School as a comprehensive school; and if he will take steps to see that those conditions can be fulfilled.

Mr. Armstrong

The Newham authority received approval on 8th June, 1970 under Section 13(4) of the Education Act 1944—as amended—for the establishment of the Eastlea Comprehensive School in the buildings of the former Pretoria Boys' and Girls' Secondary Schools. There were no conditions placed upon the authority in giving this approval; there is no provision under the Act for conditional approvals to be made.
