HC Deb 19 June 1974 vol 875 cc159-60W
Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will publish a table showing the hourly and daily rates of pay for the Ulster Defence Regiment with the changes that have taken place since the force was formed.

Mr. William Rodgers

I shall write to the hon. Member with this information shortly.

Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what are the tax-free payments made to the Ulster Defence Regiment.

Mr. William Rodgers

Part-time members of the Ulster Defence Regiment receive tax-free bounties in recognition of their training obligation and call-out liability ranging from £25 to £35 a year depending on service. These bounties are payable over and above the normal rates of pay issued in respect of periods of full-time duty and training.

Mr. Wm. Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if the special allowance of 50p per day now being paid to the Regular Army for service in Northern Ireland is also being paid to the members of the Ulster Defence Regiment.

Mr. William Rodgers

As my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister explained on 16th May [Vol. 873, c. 519] full-time staff of the Ulster Defence Regiment will get the special payment of 50p a day. Part-timers will receive the special payment if they are called out for more than 14 days, which is the same qualifying period as applies to the Regular Army.
