39. Mr. R. C. Mitchellasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether she has made an assessment of the effects of the legislation on abortion on recruitment to the nursing profession.
§ Dr. OwenNo detailed assessment has been made of the effect of the Abortion Act 1968 on nurse recruitment. The committee on the working of that Act reported that from the professional nursing organisations there was evidence that the Act had had little or no effect on nurse recruitment but that there had also been evidence from other sources to the effect that staff had resigned because of it.
