HC Deb 13 June 1974 vol 874 cc625-6W
Mr. Arnold Shaw

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment, in view of the concern of the parents of the children of Uphall School, Ilford, which adjoins the Laporte chemical complex and where oxidation of cyclohexane is carried on, whether he will have discussions with the firm over a possible resiting of the works.

Mr. John Silkin

I do appreciate my hon. Friend's concern, but the course of action he suggests is in the first place a matter for the Redbridge Borough Council, as both local education and planning authority, to consider. It will no doubt take into account the advice given on problems of this sort in the Department's Circular 1/72.
