asked the Secretary of State for Defense what was the total strength of each category of the Territorial and Army Volunteer Reserve on 1st January 1973 and on the latest available date.

The strength of the Territorial and Army Volunteer Reserve on 1st January 1973 was 59,299 of which 3,533 were Group B, which consists mainly of university officer training corps and TAVR bands which have a lower liability for call-out. Comparable figures for 31st March 1974, which is the latest available date, are 54,658 of which 3,798 are Group B.
