HC Deb 12 June 1974 vol 874 cc591-2W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is the average per capita personal income before taxation for Wales; and what is the equivalent figure for England, Scotland and each of the constituent countries of the EEC.

Mr. John Morris

In 1971–72, the latest year for which information is available, the figures for Wales, England and Scotland were £557, £663 and £534 per annum, respectively. The income figures used in calculating these averages were derived from the Inland Revenue Survey of Personal Incomes for that year. They exclude non-taxable receipts, such as certain national insurance benefits, as well as income below the exemption limit for tax. The remainder of the information asked for by the hon. Member cannot be readily provided on a comparable basis.
