HC Deb 11 June 1974 vol 874 c505W
Miss Boothroyd

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the percentage of staff engaged through employment agencies and working in the National Health Service in the following categories: professional and technical, catering, domestic and ancillary.

Dr. Owen

The following information is available relating to the National Health Service hospitals in England in 1973:

Nurses Agency nurses and midwives as a percentage of total qualified nurses and midwives (whole-time equivalent terms as at 30th September)—3.1.

Radiographers Agency Radiographers as a percentage of total radiographers (whole-time equivalent terms—agency radiographers at 30th April, others as at 30th September)—3.6.

I am aware of the very little use of agency staff in other classes within the categories mentioned.
