HC Deb 11 June 1974 vol 874 c499W
Mr. Ovenden

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether he will make a statement on the compensation to be paid to staff employed on the Commission on Industrial Relations and to members of the commission.

Mr. Booth

Staff of the Commission on Industrial Relations who were engaged for specific periods but with a break clause in their employment agreement and whose services can no longer be retained will, in the special circumstances, receive not less than one month's notice of termination of employment and, additionally, not less than the equivalent of two months' pay in lieu of further notice. The length of notice in each individual case—in some cases up to three months—will be related to the period of employment with the commission.

The normal practice in relation to members of public bodies of this kind of paying compensation where appropriate is being followed for persons who will cease to be members of the commission. This will be assessed individually according to the circumstances.
