HC Deb 10 June 1974 vol 874 cc446-7W
Mr. Silvester

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many dwellings have been affected by compulsory purchase orders approved by him during 1974 to the latest convenient date; and how many of these lie in areas to which the 75 per cent. rate of improvement grant applies.

Mr. Kaufman

Between 1st January and 31st May 1974, 269 compulsory purchase orders were confirmed under Part III of the Housing Act 1957. The number of dwellings included in the orders as submitted was approximately 14,500, and as confirmed approximately 14,000. Of these, 10,600 and 10,200 respectively lie in areas to which the 75 per cent. rate of improvement grant applies. Accordingly, assuming that applications would have been made and accepted in every case, a maximum of 400 dwellings in England and Wales were deprived of eligibility for the 75 per cent. grant because they were covered by compulsory purchase orders, all of which originated in 1973 or before.
