Mr. Kinnock

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the total amount of money given to industries in assisted areas of England and Wales, respectively, in the form of regional employment premium; and, in each country, what has been the total sum given in respect of juvenile, women and male workers since the scheme was inaugurated.

The total amount of regional employment premium paid by my Department in respect of assisted areas in England and Wales, respectively, from the introduction of the premium until the end of the financial year 1973–74 is £331 million and £86 million. The other figures requested are not available.
