HL Deb 31 July 1974 vol 353 cc2366-7WA
LORD HAWKE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they pay the Post Office for paying and processing weekly pensions; if so how much do they pay for dealing with each weekly payment and the ancillary operations and how many weekly pensions are involved.

LORD WELLS-PESTELL

Yes. The Post Office is currently paid 4.7p for each encashment of about 7½ million weekly retirement pension and widow's pension orders. The charge for the encashment of about 1¼ million various other weekly social security pension orders is only slightly different according to the amount of work involved.
