HC Deb 31 July 1974 vol 878 c374W
Mr. Michael Morris

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will give a general direction to the Post Office to charge additional depreciation in its accounts each year on the calculated basis of replacement cost of fixed assets rather than the normal accounting method of historic cost, this additional depreciation at present running in excess of £50 million.

Mr. Meacher

No, the Post Office already makes such provision as indicated in Note 10 on the Post Office Accounts for 1973–74 which have just been published.
