asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when she expects to receive the report of the Halsbury Committee.

Mr. Luce

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when she expects the Halsbury Report to be published on the pay and conditions of nurses and other medical ancillary services.

Mrs. Castle

Lord Halsbury has now told me that he expects his inquiry to produce a final report on nurses' pay and conditions of service, during the week commencing 16th September. At the same time it will make recommendations for interim payments to members of the eight other professions which it is examining. I have assured the Staff Sides of the Whitley Councils concerned that the Government will deal with the report as soon as it is received and the recommendations for interim payments to the eight professions will also be dealt with immediately. Payments will be backdated to 23rd May, the date when the inquiry was announced.
