HC Deb 31 July 1974 vol 878 c201W
32. Sir G. De Freitas

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs for how long his Department has retained the British passport belonging to Michael Beswick of Finch Drive, Kettering, who was evacuated from Karachi in 1971: why it is retained; and when it will be returned to him.

Mr. Ennals

Mr. Beswick's passport has been retained since his evacuation from Pakistan at public expense in December 1971. This is because he has not yet repaid the cost of his repatriation in accordance with his own signed undertaking. The passport will be returned to him when he has completed repayment. The action taken follows long established practice which has been explained to the House on earlier occasions.
