asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what consultations he has had with his opposite numbers in each of the European Community member countries about joint action to combat illegal immigration.

None, but links have been established by both the Immigration Service and the police with their counterparts in a number of EEC countries.

Mr. Eyre

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give, to the latest available date, the number of illegal immigrants given leave to remain in the United Kingdom who were resident at the date of such leave in the area of the West Midlands Metropolitan County Council.

Up to 26th July 72 people have been given indefinite leave to remain under the terms of the announcement which my right hon. Friend made on 11th April.
