HC Deb 31 July 1974 vol 878 cc213-4W
Mr. David Price

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what is the present strength of the Hampshire Constabulary; how far is it short of establishment; and what steps are being taken to increase recruitment.

Dr. Summerskill

The strength on 25th July was 2,603 with 241 vacancies. £10,000 has been made available for the current financial year by the police authority for recruitment activities, which will include advertising in the appropriate media, the holding of open days and participation in exhibitions and other functions. The force also benefits from the national recruitment campaign, for which £682,000 is available in this financial year.
