HC Deb 31 July 1974 vol 878 cc256-7W
Mr. Biffen

asked the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, what is the production of United Kingdom butter and cheese since the publication of the Prices Act; what were the figures for the corresponding period twelve months ago; and what is the expected trend in United Kingdom butter and cheese production for the 12 months in prospect.

Mr. Bishop

Figures for the production of United Kingdom butter and cheese since the Prices Act was passed are not available. Figures are published on a calendar month basis and production of butter and cheese in the months of July 1973 totalled 9,080 tons and 15,455 tons respectively; figures for July 1974 are not yet available. The utilisation of milk available for manufacture is a matter for the industry and trade to determine but some increase in cheese production seems likely.
