HC Deb 31 July 1974 vol 878 cc310-1W
Mr. Ron Lewis

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received from British Railways regarding the building of the advanced passenger train; what replies he has given; and if he will give some indication when production of these will commence.

Mr. Mulley

As I stated in reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Preston North (Mr. Watkins) on 24th July, I have told British Railways that they may proceed with their plans for the production of prototype advanced passenger trains for service on the London-Glasgow route. These plans at present envisage starting the production of the first prototype by the end of this year.
