§ Mr. Churchillasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on the meeting of his Under-Secretary of State on 22nd July with branch members of the General and Municipal Workers' Union concerning the dismissal of members of that union employed in contracting work at Belvedere and Deptford power stations following their request to the inspector of factories to investigate possible breaches of the asbestos regulations 1969.
§ Mr. Harold WalkerIn my reply to the hon. Member on 26th July I confirmed that Dagenham Branch members of the General and Municipal Workers' Union had alleged that some of their members had been dismissed from their employment at the Belvedere and Deptford power stations after the Factory Inspectorate had been called in. I have asked the delegation who came to see me on this matter on 22nd July to let me have written details, and have made arrangements for members of Her Majesty's Factory Inspectorate to follow up allegations of working conditions that might give rise to ill health.
