HC Deb 25 July 1974 vol 877 c566W
Mr. Newens

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list all new towns for which expansion schemes have been suggested and indicate the population increases proposed above the original target figure and the date when a decision is likely to be finalised in each case.

Mr. John Silkin

There are four towns, Bracknell, Harlow, Peterlee and Stevenage, where the development corporations have been asked to submit proposals for expansion. No revised population figures have yet been suggested to the Department. Decisions are likely for Harlow at the end of 1975; for Peterlee and Stevenage early in 1976; and for Bracknell later in 1976. The future size of other new towns is frequently reviewed in the light of changing circumstances.
