asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will consider introducing legislation in the form of personal expenditure for tax relief to wage earners compelled to travel long distances to work, burdened with increasing costs of fares.

My right hon. Friend has considered my hon. Friend's suggestion carefully but has concluded that it would not be right to single out this particular form of personal expenditure for tax relief.
