HC Deb 24 July 1974 vol 877 cc487-8W
Mr. Loyden

asked the Secretary of State for Industry what was the total amount of investment in manufacturing industry in Great Britain for the years 1960, 1968, 1973 and 1974; what percentage of this investment came from (a) private sources, and (b) public funds; and what were the figures in actual terms and adjusted for inflation.

Mr. Gregor Mackenzie

Fixed capital expenditure of manufacturing industry in the United Kingdom in 1960, 1968 and 1973 was as follows:

£ million
At current prices At 1970 prices
1960 1,021 1,436
1968 1,639 1,846
1973 2,458 1,894

Figures for Great Britain in 1960 and 1973 are not available, but in 1968, investment in manufacturing in Northern Ireland accounted for a little under 3 per cent. of the United Kingdom total.

I regret that information is not available for answering the second part of the Question.
