§ Mr. Hooleyasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what aid is given to Zambia to offset the effects of the economic boycott against Rhodesia.
§ Miss Joan LestorAssistance to help Zambia offset the effects of IDI amounted to nearly £24 million between 1965 and 1968. In 1969 and 1972 Her Majesty's Government agreed to release Zambia from certain obligations in connection with the financing of the Kariba hydroelectric scheme. The resulting commitment for Her Majesty's Government amounts contingently to approximately £15 million spread over the period 1972–89. In 1973 a £1.014 million interest free loan was made to Zambia for road transport equipment following the closure of the Zambian-Rhodesian border. This loan is additional to our normal aid programme to Zambia which in all its forms is currently running at about £7 million per annum.
