HC Deb 17 July 1974 vol 877 c135W
24. Mr. Kilfedder

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs what steps he has taken to relieve the plight of the Biharis in Bangladesh; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Ennals

The future of the Biharis in Bangladesh remains the subject of discussion between the Governments of Pakistan and Bangladesh. We are concerned about the welfare of this and other displaced communities in both Pakistan and Bangladesh. We have provided funds to assist the relief work of the International Committee of the Red Cross, and have also supplied air transport to assist in the transfer of populations following the Delhi agreement. We are ready to consider additional ways of helping.
