HC Deb 16 July 1974 vol 877 c84W
Mr. Christopher Price

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether he has given consideration to paragraph 3.41 General (ii) of the Wood inquiry, viz., that consideration should be given at both national and local levels to ways of improving techniques for assessing and selecting teachers; and what conclusions he has reached.

Mr. Armstrong

The Department asked the local authority associations in June 1973 to consider this recommendation. I understand that they decided to await the findings of a research project on "The Promotion Structure and Career Patterns in the Teaching Profession". The National Foundation for Educational Research will be publishing its report on the project in September and the Council of Local Education Authorities then intends to enter into discussions with the teachers' associations.
