§ Mr. Gwilym Robertsasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what study he has made of the position whereby tenants of a number of local authorities, who resisted the Housing Finance Act rent increases until they became mandatory in October 1971, have suffered larger rent increases than the tenants of other authorities who imposed rent increases in April 1971; and if he will introduce legislation to redress this position.
§ Mr. FreesonI am well aware of the problem to which my hon. Friend refers. It is a consequence of the rigid system of rent increases imposed by the Housing Finance Act. We will be introducing a Bill as soon as possible to provide for the repeal of that system.
