§ Mr. Bruce-Gardyneasked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will make a further statement about the progress of his discussions with Triumph Motor Cycles and former employees of Beaver-brook Newspapers in Scotland, respectively, regarding financial assistance from public funds.
§ Mr. HefferFollowing further discussions with the parties concerned I am now prepared in principle to provide financial assistance to enable a co-operative to be formed at Meriden to produce motor cycles there. Some features remain to be considered with representatives of the proposed co-operative and Norton Villiers Triumph Limited and with the Industrial Development Advisory Board whom I 595W will be consulting. I hope to make a full statement in the House shortly.
My Department is continuing its assessment of the application by former employees of Beaverbrook Newspapers in Glasgow for assistance under Section 7 of the Industry Act towards a new newspaper.
