Mr. Faulds

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment when he intends to publish his Department's study of the effect of salt and other additives on the growth of plants on verges and central reservations.

Mr. Carmichael

The study, which is over a period of three years, is being undertaken by the Imperial College of Science and Technology on behalf of the Transport and Road Research Laboratory. It is expected that some findings will be published at the end of 1975, and that a fuller report will be made after completion of the study in mid-1976.
