HC Deb 10 July 1974 vol 876 cc502-3W
Mr. Ford

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received about the inclusion of St. Joseph's College, Bradford, in a reorganisation scheme; if, in lieu of a decision on status, he will agree to an increase in fees; and if he will make a full statement.

Mr. Armstrong

Representations have been received in the Department from college governors and teaching staff, from parents' associations and individual parents about the proposals for the reorganisation on comprehensive lines of maintained Catholic schools in Bradford, involving the participation of St. Joseph's College, and about a proposal that the college should enter the maintained system as a voluntary aided school. A number of inquiries have also been received from Members of this House. The views of the new Bradford education authority on the proposals were sought by my predecessor; when these are received my right hon. Friend will consider whether the proposals should be approved.

Meanwhile a request has been received for approval of an increase in the school's fees. This will be considered on the basis which my right hon. Friend announced on 26th June in reply to a Question by my hon. Friend the Member for Manchester, Gorton (Mr. Marks).—[Vol. 875, c. 477]
