asked the Secretary of State for the Social Services what action she proposes to take to reduce the number of deaths from chronic alcoholism of 165 in 1972 to the level of 85 in 1962 as a minimum decrease in loss of life from this cause.

Recorded deaths from alcoholism and alcoholism-related conditions in England and Wales have fluctuated in recent years but are still relatively low; nevertheless I am seriously concerned that there are a number of indications that the problem of alcoholism is an increasing one.
