HC Deb 08 July 1974 vol 876 cc372-3W
Mrs. Colquhoun

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will consider asking Northampton Development Corporation to build a higher proportion of houses to rent than hitherto, in view of the lack of rented accommodation in Northampton, and the increasing waiting time for houses to rent.

Mr. John Silkin

As I told the hon. Member for Northampton, South (Mr. Morris) on 4th July 1974 we hope to complete our review of policy on the proportions of houses to be built for sale and rent in new towns by the autumn. The Northampton Development Corporation is in any case striving to get more rented houses. It recently decided to build about 500 houses for rent on a site previously earmarked for housing for sale.
