HC Deb 04 July 1974 vol 876 cc228-9W
48. Mr. Lawrence

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how the 50p per score subsidy on pigmeat introduced after his March negotiations in Brussels affected the level of sow and boar slaughterings and farmers' replacement plans; and what difference he expects the extension of this subsidy to produce.

Mr. Peart

In the 12 weeks of 1974 preceding the introduction of the special subsidy the estimated rate of sow and boar slaughterings averaged 11,700 per week. Following the introduction of the subsidy the weekly rate has averaged 9,800 per week. The results of the June census are not yet available to judge how replacement plans have developed.
